Preparing For Revival
By Pastor Rickey Hunt
Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabits the praises of Israel.
Most Christians would agree that our country is in need of revival. To go a little further most churches are in need of revival. As Christians living in a very busy world it can be challenging to say the least, and again we may find ourselves of the need to be revived. What we need to realize is, that revival is not only for the sinner, but also for the saint. If we would be honest and real there are times that we don’t have much life or zeal for the things of God. When that’s the case, we need revival in our lives.
Whether it is our life or our church there are three steps we can take to prepare for revival. The first step we need to take is to prepare our hearts to praise the Lord before we go to church. Don’t wait until you get to church to praise him, but prepare yourself ahead of time. You will find that your experience at church will be much more meaningful if you do so. God inhabits the praises of his people. This simply means that he will come down and move amongst his people.
The second step we can take to prepare our hearts for revival is to come to church hungry. Matthew 5:6 says “that those that are thirsty and hungry shall be filled”. As we come to church hungering and thirsting for God he will show up and fill his church with his presence. When he shows up then we are changed.
The third step to take to prepare for revival is to come to church with a pure heart. It is anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, offense, and other sins that stops revival from coming to our churches and our lives. Repent means to turn from our sins. We need to confess to God our sins and to turn from them. According to Acts 3:19 we will experience a refreshing from the Lord when we do so. None of us are perfect, but if we will make a commitment to quickly repent of our sins we can have and maintain a pure heart toward God.
If we will prepare our hearts to praise him, to stay hungry, and to keep our hearts pure, we will have revival.
